Bauer was the boy of the painter inside a porcelain manufacturing plant at Eisenberg in Saxe-Altenburg.
He exposed at a Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin, where he bound himself to the Right Hegelians under Philip Marheineke. Around 1834 he began to teach around Berlin as a licentiate of theology, & in 1839 was transferred to the University of Bonn. Within 1838 he published his Kritische Darstellung der Religion des Alten Testaments (Ii vols.), which shows that at that date he was however faithful to the Hegelian Best. Presently afterward his opinions underwent the vary, & inside both works, 1 on the For Gospel, Kritik 500 evangelischen Geschichte des Johannes (1840), & a more on the Synoptics, Kritik five hundred evangelischen Geschichte der Synoptiker (1841), likewise when within his Herr Hengstenberg, kritische Briefe uber den Gegensatz des Gesetzes und des Evangeliums, he announced his complete rejection of his sooner orthodoxy. Bauer became associated by using a radical Young Hegelians or "Left Hegelians". Inside 1842 the food & drug administration revoked his license and he retired for the rest of his life to Rixdorf, touching Berlin.
From either so inside, he took the deep interest around modern history & politics, also when in theology, & published Geschichte 500 Politik, Kultur und Aufklärung des 18ten Jahrhunderts (Quaternity vols. 1843?1845), Geschichte five hundred französischen Revolution (Trinity vols. 1847), & ''Disraelis romantischer und Bismarcks' socialistischer Imperialismus (1882). More critical works come: the criticism of the gospels & the history of their origin, Kritik five hundred Evangelien und Geschichte ihres Ursprungs (1850-1852), the book on the Acts of the Apostles, Apostelgeschichte (1850), and the criticism of the Pauline epistles, Kritik five hundred paulinischen Briefe (1850-1852). He died at Rixdorf on the 13th of April 1882.
His criticism of the New Testament was highly deconstructive. David Strauss, in his Life of Jesus'', got accounted for the Gospel narration when half-conscious products of the mythological inherent aptitude in the early Christian communities. Bauer ridiculed Strauss's notion that the community can develop the attached story. His have contention, embodying the theory of CG Wilke (Der Urevangelist, 1838), was that a original tale was a Gospel of Mark; that this was composed in the reign of Hadrian; and that when this a more story were modelled by more writers. He, but, "regarded Mark not only as the first narrator, but even as the creator of the gospel history, thus making the latter a fiction and Christianity the invention of a single original evangelist" (Otto Pfleiderer).
On a equivalent principle the iv main Pauline epistles were look on forgeries of the 2nd century. Bauer argued farther for the preponderance of the Graeco-Roman element, when opposed to the Jewish, in the Christian writings. A writer of Mark's gospel was "an Italian, at home both in Rome and Alexandria"; that of Matthew's gospel "a Roman, nourished by the spirit of Seneca"; the Pauline epistles were written inside the West in antagonism to the Paul of the Acts, and so in. Christianity is fundamentally "Stoicism triumphant in a Jewish garb." This line of criticism has witnessed couple supporters, mostly in the Netherlands. It for certaaround got its value in emphasizing a importance of researching a influence of environment in the formation of the Christian Scriptures. Bauer wwhen the human of restless, impetuous activity & independent, in case ill-balanced, judgment, 1 world health organization, as he himself perceived, was additional in situ as a yours free!-independent of criticism than as an official teacher. He come in the prevent to become regarded kindly potentially by opponents, & he was non afraid of ingesting the line displeasing to his liberal friends on the Jewish wonder (Die Judenfrage, 1843).
